VJ Day 80 Service

This morning, 15 August 2025, members of the public gathered on Brackley’s Piazza to commemorate and honour all those who continued to serve and fight in the Far East, bringing the Second World War to its final close.
The proceedings began at 9:00am with a heartfelt speech from the Mayor of Brackley Cllr Bernie Tiller, expressing deep gratitude and respect for those who fought for our freedom, and affirming that they will never be forgotten.
This was followed by a prayer from Rev. Richard Duncan, and a reading of an extract from the poem ForThe Fallen by Carol Billingham, President of the Brackley branch of the Royal British Legion. The gathering then observed a two-minute silence in solemn remembrance of those who served in the final days of the war in the Far East.
We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who attended and joined in marking this momentous and poignant anniversary.
